NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission

New York, NY | MBB Architects

Located in the renovated historic Home Life Building, the new Landmarks Preservation Commission headquarters provides a distinct public identity and expanded space for the city’s preservation work. MFLD designed a range of lighting solutions for both public and private areas. A two-story Hearing Room features a multi-layered lighting and controls strategy that supports both petitioners and the Commission during landmark designation debates. Adjustable LED downlights, wall sconces, and integrated daylighting create flexible, balanced illumination. Throughout the reception, meeting, and conference rooms, recessed fixtures and pendant rings echo the round art deco windows preserved within the glass block walls. Linear pendants provide glare-free general lighting for private and open offices.
