Queens, NY | MBB Architects
The 97,000 s.f. new building and extensive renovations to the existing PS 19 building in Queens provides expansive relief to one of New York’s most crowded schools. The new building complements the scale, massing, and fenestration of the original historic structure constructed in 1923. New LED lighting meets modern standards of sustainability and illumination. In the lobby, a linear wallwasher highlights a vibrant art mural referencing nearby Flushing Meadows Corona Park, the site of the 1939 and 1964 World’s Fairs. The lobby and corridors, glazed walls filter natural light and luminous circular fixtures complement the warm materials through the building. The electric lighting exceeds LEED-NC 2009 standards.
