Packer Garden House

Brooklyn Heights, NY | WXY Studio

Located within the Brooklyn Heights Historic District, the Packer Garden House positions architectural lighting as a central driver of wellness, sustainability, and learning. The project seamlessly integrates lighting across two distinct structures—a preserved 19th-century landmark brownstone and a new mass-timber expansion—creating consistent light quality and visual continuity throughout the four-level Lower School facility. Coordinated with daylight and views to the surrounding landscape, the lighting strategy supports intuitive circulation, reinforces transparency between learning spaces, and enhances exposed wood ceilings and natural materials. Bright yet visually comfortable illumination fosters a calm, garden-like environment tailored to young students and the educators who support them.
